AFAS Live* has 2 main spaces. The concerts are held in the main hall, known as the Black Box. This hall has a maximum capacity of 6,000. It is unique for having no obstructive pillars, ensuring perfect sightlines from every corner.
The smaller hall (Talent Stage) with a capacity of 700, is used for after parties.
The building has a 'closed' character to manage its world-class acoustics. It is shaped as a massive, monolithic block characterized by its clean, rectangular lines.
The architect of this robust, striking building is Frits van Dongen, who also designed residential complex The Whale in the harbour district of Amsterdam.
Dominating the entrance are 3 large, circular digital screens used for branding and event promotion.
* The building is named after its sponsor AFAS, a prominent Dutch software company.
The venue attracts diverse visitors ranging from global pop followers to techno and trance fans during events like the Amsterdam Dance Event.
Because of its perfect sound and mid-size capacity (6,000), it is often the preferred choice for superstars who want a more "intimate" arena experience compared to the massive Ziggo Dome or stadiums.
Iconic international artists and bands who have graced the stage at AFAS Live include Adele, Beyoncé, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Daft Punk, David Bowie, Kanye West, and Katy Perry.
AFAS Live is located in Amsterdam Zuidoost, right next to the Johan Cruijff ArenA on a 3-minute walk from Station Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA, where you can catch a train, metro or bus to the centre of Amsterdam.
