Route instructions

  1. Leave Central Station on the north side, or go cycling around the CS so that you are near the north side entrance/exit gate. You are now in front of the IJ River, the harbour of Amsterdam.
  2. Take the ferry (ferry 902) for cycles to IJplein (Amsterdam-Noord). Be sure that you have the right one!
  3. Directly after you got ashore, go straight ahead to Meeuwenlaan.
  4. Stay on Meeuwenlaan until you see 'Dirk van den Broek' supermarket on the right side.
  5. You could buy here some provisions (food and beverages) for your tour.

The first 500 m is not the nicest part of the tour: you pass an industrial area. Take care of the traffic.

    Bredero College
  6. You are still on Meeuwenlaan when you pass a big roundabout, and then, on your right hand side, you see Bredero College, a school building.
  7. Directly after the school, turn right and enter the park 'WH Vliegenbos' in the direction of the camping site.
  8. Follow the signs of 'Schellingwoude' Cycle Route. Pass on your left hand side Camping Vliegenbos. Directly after the camping you go to the left, still folowing the signs 'Schellingwoude' route.
  9. If everything went fine you leave the park and you arrive, with a slight slope, after 100 m at 'Nieuwendammerdijk', an old dike with historical wooden houses that are very characteristic for the Waterland region.
  10. NieuwendammerdijkHistorical wooden houses at Nieuwendammerdijk in Nieuwendam

  11. On Nieuwendammerdijk, go to the right, and follow the dike road for only 150 m.
  12. Meerpadkerk
  13. Turn left down the slope into 'Meerpad' and pass by the small charming wooden Baptist Church (Doopsgezinde Gemeente).
  14. At the end the road makes an angle to the left, turn right, cross the brick bridge, and turn right again to arrive on the cycle path.
  15. Follow the gravel coloured cycle path, underneath the viaduct. When you arrive at the waterside, turn left, and after a while you'll cross 'Werengouw' main road, take care of the traffic.
  16. On your left you see a large parking place of shopping mall 'Boven 't IJ'. Continue on the 'Baanakkerspad' bike path along the water side and through Baanakkerspark.
  17. The bike path ends at 'JH van Heekpad', turn left on the bridge across the water.
  18. After 200 m turn right onto Elpermeer to arrive after a while at a big heap of sand (the Observatorium). Just stay on the bike path around the hill, go underneath the highway, and cycle through the golf course.
  19. Zunderdorp, Church
  20. At the end of the lane turn right onto 'Buikslotermeerdijk', follow the dike along the ditch.
  21. From here you have a nice view over the village with church of Zunderdorp.

  22. After 400 m turn left, pass over the white wooden bridge over the water and follow the cycle track in the direction of the local football field.
  23. If you want to visit the village of Zunderdorp, do not cross the bridge and follow the canal, after 300 m, cross the brick bridge, turn to the left in the direction of the church. Continue the road through the village, and after you have crossed 2 more bridges, turn right onto 'Het Voorwerf' and you are on the right route again.

  24. At the end of the cycle track you turn right onto 'Termietergouw', and turn right again after you have passed an old village school buiding. You are on 'Het Nopeind'.
  25. At the end of 'Het Voorwerf' you leave the village with a curve to the left in the direction of Broek in Waterland. Continue onto 'Broekergouw'. After 100 m you are passing a horse riding school on your right hand side.
  26. From here just follow the cycle track to Broek in Waterland, along the canal, until you arrive at Broek in Waterland. Then turn right onto Eilandweg.
  27. The distance between Zunderdorp and Broek in Waterland is about 3 km.

  28. After 200 m turn left onto 'Jaagweg'.
  29. After you have crossed the busy road (take care of the traffic) you enter the centre of the village.

It is recommended to take a little ride through the streets of the ancient village of Broek in Waterland and its beautiful wooden houses and church. It is really worth to do some sightseeing.

If you are hungry and thirsty you can visit the charming pancake house De Witte Swaen or restaurant Het Broeker Huis.

Private guesthouses offering bed & breakfast are available in pitoresque Broek in Waterland at Inn on the Lake or House of Mentink .
