Melkweg   Milky Way

Concert, Clubnight, Film, Exhibition, Festival

The Melkweg is an internationally renowned concert hall and cultural centre with live music, club nights, photography, cinema and festivals.

Squatted by a theatre troupe in 1970, the former factory building has risen from the rough to become a reputed music and cultural events venue with international fame.

Many great artists, including U2 (their first performance outside of Ireland), Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Prince and Lady Gaga performed in the Melkweg.

Multifunctional cultural centre

This former dairy and sugar factory around the corner of Leidseplein is divided into a number of spaces and houses 2 concert halls, a cinema, theatre, café , and exposition space.

The diversity of Melkweg's programming - from established names to new home-grown artists - and visitors, together with its different spaces and special location, have for years made the Melkweg a unique place.

Melkweg Expo

Melkweg Expo  is an exhibition space for contemporary photography and a platform for emerging artists focusing on photography that explores identity, society and pop culture.

Melkweg Expo is open later than most exhibition spaces, until 11pm. Free entrance via MILK café.
