The most famous canals are the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. They form the unique ring of canals, the Canal Belt (Grachtengordel) of Amsterdam, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A canal tour is a great way to view the city from a different angle. Daytime canal cruises and evening canal cruises (or candlelight cruises) operate throughout the year. If you're more a romantic type of traveler you should go for a candlelight cruise in the evening. Reservations are not required for individuals for regular daytime tours.
