Every winter Amsterdam Light Festival transforms Amsterdam's city centre into an open-air light museum. Tailor-made art pieces and installations by contemporary (international) artists, designers, and architects light up the city.

The 20 light artworks can be admired by foot, bike or boat. You can do this on your own initiative or by booking a boat tour.

A selection is made from hundreds of submitted concepts. Together with the artists, designers and architects, the festival works to realize the concepts into light artworks, which are presented from the end of November.

The role of light in conveying a message and the city of Amsterdam as a medium for telling stories are central to this edition.

Boat trip across the canals

During the annual Amsterdam Light Festival several cruise companies organise evening canal cruises to admire the light artworks by boat.

Blue Boat Company, official partner of the Amsterdam Light Festival, offers evening cruises with live guides (NL/EN) and special kids cruises for families.
