Lijnbaansgracht

Lijnbaansgracht

Hand-dug canal from 1612 which bends beyond the boundary of the Jordaan district

Originally constructed to mark the boundary of the city’s expansion and to accommodate ropewalks (“lijnbanen”) used for rope-making, it now forms a tranquil waterway lined with houseboats, residential buildings, and remnants of Amsterdam’s industrial past.
