The monetary authority for the Netherlands from 1814 to 1998, issuing the Dutch guilder.

After nearly 5 years of renovation work, employees of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) returned to the headquarters building on Frederiksplein in early 2025.

The current building has been restored to its former glory, to its 1961 design, consisting of a low square base and a rectangular office tower (75m/246ft high).

The bank was established from the start in the current Allard Pierson building on Oude Turfmarkt where it moved from to its new premises in 1968.

Art and money collections

Public spaces, which include an auditorium, exhibition space and a modern library, invite residents and visitors to learn about DNB’s core activities through exhibitions, interactive games, seminars and debates.

The formerly enclosed courtyard has been redesigned into a public garden. A public area has been created on the ground floor where visitors can visit ‘the new treasure room’ from March 2025: where gold stocks and money used to be kept, the money and art collection can now be viewed.
