Spinoza Monument

Statue of the philosopher Baruch Spinoza

The bronze statue by sculptor Nicolas Dings was erected on Spinoza's 376th birthday in 2008 along the Zwanenburgwal canal in his hometown of Amsterdam.

The statue is close to the place where he was born. The pedestal reads: "The purpose of the state is freedom" as a summary of its philosophy.
